Public Affairs Specialist American Consulate General, Thessaloniki, Greece
Ioanna Koutsounanou is the Public Affairs Specialist at the U.S. Consulate General; a position she has since 2007, which includes the conception and implementation of the full range of Public Affairs operations in the region. Prior to that, she worked as the Public Affairs Assistant for nine years, focusing on the administrative and logistical planning of educational programs in northern Greece. Ioanna returned from her studies in the United States in 1994 and worked as an English language tutor for local private schools, and as a secretary to Mrs. Ketty Tzitzikosta at the UNESCO Center for Women and Peace in the Balkans. She has gotten both her Bachelor?s and Master?s degrees in Political Science, Government and International Relations from Queens College, City University of New York (Dean?s List.) She has a minor in Byzantine and Modern Greek Studies. During her career, she completed various on-the-job trainings, including time management, crisis management, conflict resolution, negotiation skills, teamwork, managerial leadership skills, strategic planning for Public Diplomacy and the Use of New Media. She was born in Kozani and graduated from the Fourth Kozani High School. She is happily married to Chrysanthos Leonidis and has a daughter, Anna, who is eight years old.
